A neat variation on the traditional Cruncher, this pattern keeps the dependable black profile but adds a subtle touch of colour and attraction through the body and hotspot.

The black body gives the fly a strong, well-defined silhouette in the water, while the fine red MicroWire rib provides a restrained flash of colour without making the pattern too bright. Finished with a vibrant Sunburst goose biot hotspot, it gives the fly a clear focal point that can help catch the attention of trout without taking away from the overall appearance of the pattern.

The Cruncher is a versatile stillwater fly and can be fished effectively as part of a team or on its own. It works well on a range of lines and retrieves, from a slow figure-of-eight when fish are feeding close to the surface through to a more active retrieve when trout are on the move.
